“Direct-back”
Canadian ports of entry are directing Refugee applicants seeking admission from the United States back to the USA with an appointment to return for a hearing at a later date. This is being done to reduce waiting times at ports of entry, but is causing some such applicants to be forced to return to face US immigration authorities.
Those who intend to make such refugee claims should contact Canadian ports of entry in order to arrange appointments in advance, and avoid the possibility of the "direct-back" procedure.
