Prince Edward Island issued new invitations to apply for a provincial nomination to candidates in its Express Entry, Labour Impact and Business Impact immigration categories in a new draw held December 20.
A total of 65 invitations were issued to Express Entry and Labour Impact candidates and another nine were issued to candidates in the Business Impact: Work Permit Stream.
The Prince Edward Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) did not provide a breakdown of how many Express Entry candidates were invited or the minimum score.
The PEI PNP has now issued 1,240 invitations in 2018 through both the Express Entry and Labour Market Impact categories, which is 86 per cent of all invitations issued this year through the province’s various immigration categories.
PEI’s Express Entry Category is for candidates with a profile in the federal Express Entry system. Express Entry manages the pool of candidates for Canada’s three Federal High Skilled immigration categories — the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.

Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination are awarded an additional 600 points toward their Express Entry ranking score and move to the front of the line for an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
In order to be considered for a provincial nomination, Express Entry candidates must first register an Expression of Interest, or EOI, with the PEI PNP.
Candidates provide details on their education, work experience and proficiency in English or French, among other factors, and are awarded a score based on the information provided.
EOIs are reviewed and assigned points based on six selection factors: age, language, education, work experience, employment, and adaptability up to a maximum of 100 points.
Those with the highest scores based on the PEI PNP’s unique points system are issued invitations to apply for a provincial nomination.
Express Entry candidates may be invited to apply for a provincial nomination with or without a job in the province, and there have been cases when the PEI PNP has contacted Express Entry candidates who have not submitted an Expression of Interest to the province but who may be a match for labour market needs in the province.
PEI’s Labour Impact Category also operates on an EOI basis and is divided into three streams — Skilled Worker, Critical Worker and International Graduate.
Candidates for these streams must be either currently working for a PEI employer or have a job offer from an employer in the province, among other criteria.
Candidates in the Business Impact: Work Permit Stream invited in this latest draw had a minimum score of 130.
This stream provides selected entrepreneurs with a temporary work permit to operate a business in PEI and only issues a nomination for permanent residence if the terms of their business performance agreement are met.
