About the PNP
The PNP today is Canada’s main pathway for economic immigration. The program was initially started to spread the benefits of immigration throughout Canada.
In recent years the PNP has become a more prominent fixture of Canada’s immigration policy, especially as provinces look to address their labour and demographic shortages more closely through immigration.
In addition to the traditional PNP (which all provinces in Canada run, except Quebec and Nunavut run), provinces have the option of nominating candidates in the federal Express Entry pool—otherwise called an Enhanced Provincial Nomination. This enhanced nomination gives Express Entry candidates an extra 600 CRS points, all but guaranteeing they will receive an ITA.
Between 2023 and 2025 the PNP is expected to welcome 333,000 newcomers to Canada.
