TD Bank Group and Cricket Canada announce new sponsorship

To support the growth and development of cricket across Canada, TD Bank Group (TD) and Cricket Canada have announced a new sponsorship agreement.

Through this sponsorship, TD will be the official bank of Cricket Canada’s national teams and help support Cricket Canada as it works to build Canada's vibrant cricket-loving community. The TD sponsorship will help Cricket Canada enhance grassroots development programs and improve access to National Teams and players for young fans and enthusiasts.

Why has Cricket become so popular in Canada?

According to CulturalIQ’s 2022 report, cricket’s growth across Canada can largely be attributed to “immigration [to Canada] from cricket-playing countries.”

Specifically driven by what the report calls “the South Asian fandom, given the growth of immigrants arriving in Canada,” CulturalIQ also says that over one-quarter (28%) of its survey respondents identified themselves as  superfans of the sport.

This sponsorship will see TD featured on the official kits and training gear for Canada’s national teams, including new custom kits designed for the Canadian men’s team's first-ever appearance in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. In 2025, TD will also be the Official Sponsor of Cricket Canada’s Women’s Team.

What’s ahead for Cricket Canada?

According to Cricket Canada, 2024 is shaping up to be a milestone year for cricket in Canada.

Following their historic appearance in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, the men's team has a busy schedule ahead. Currently ranked 23rd in T20Is and 15th in ODIs in the ICC Rankings, the team is gearing up for several international tournaments. In the ODI CWC Super League, a qualifying pathway for the 50-over World Cup, the Canadian team remains unbeaten and aims to maintain this momentum as they play more matches. Additionally, international cricket will return to Canadian shores later this year, marking another significant highlight for the sport in the country.
