We are excited to announce that we are deepening that support and increasing the awards for the CAEL Scholarships. With $30,000 CAD in available awards, our top winner will take $15,000 CAD in scholarship funds, with two secondary prizes of $10,000 CAD and $5,000 CAD.

Test Format and Availability

Not familiar with the CAEL Test? As a test explicitly designed to measure students’ English language proficiency in an academic context, CAEL is one of the most effective assessments for identifying individuals with the skills needed for success at Canadian universities and colleges. The CAEL Test recreates the language used in a post-secondary setting, with test takers reading articles, listening to lecture recordings, and answering multiple-choice, written, and spoken questions, as expected in a first-year university or college classroom setting.

CAEL is available at test centres and can be taken online at home to accommodate test takers across Canada and worldwide and is accepted by over 180 Canadian universities and colleges. CAEL is also accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for the Student Direct Stream (SDS), which allows you to fast-track your studies in Canada, all using one test score.

Whether you take the test online or at a test centre, you’ll complete it entirely on a computer, with responses covering the four language components of speaking, reading, writing, and listening. The test requires no additional speaking appointments and is completed entirely in one sitting.
